Spanish

Goals:

The goals for Spanish class are for students at EMAPS to be familiar with reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language as well as gaining knowledge and understanding of the Latino and Hispanic culture.

Activities/Structures:

The activities/structures that we have put into place to accomplish the goals are to go through conversational (greetings) with student daily and expand their vocabulary by reviewing culture and topics throughout the school year.  These topics include:  weather, vowels, alphabet, pronouns, seasons, months, colors, days of the week, numbers, clothes, environment, food, and the history of Spanish speaking countries, to name a few.

Mastery of Skills:

Student exposure to a different language can influence the expansion of vocabulary in English, awareness of the world around them, acquisition of critical thinking skills, and opportunities of employment due to bilingual skills.

Future Effects of Our Work:

We hope to inspire students to use their knowledge to unlock their full potential.  We mentor, educate and push the students out of their comfort levels to assist them in their growth.

Most Important Skills to Learn:

If the students are open to learn, they will automatically gain confidence, improve public speaking abilities, develop critical thinking, build peer-to-peer collaboration skills, and build them up to fully gain knowledge of a different language that can open doors to them that may not have been there in the beginning of their journey at EMAPS.
