7th Grade English and Language Arts (ELA)

Goals:

Students in 7th Grade ELA will improve their reading level and writing skills to prepare themselves for getting into their appropriate grade and being successful in future grades, college, and careers.

Activities/Structures:

Activities we use to accomplish our goals for 7th grade include rich and rigorous class discussions, the use of graphic organizers, reading across a range of texts, collaborative learning, and multiple approaches to writing formal essays.

Mastery of Skills:

Mastery of these (and other) skills will greatly improve students’ success in 8th grade high school and beyond; as they become strong readers, confident writers, and lifelong learners.

Future Effects of our WorK:

The work we do in the 7th grade is vitally important to the future of EMAPs in several crucial ways. The work we do with our 7th graders is meant to prepare them to transition into EMAPs’ 8th grade class. Additionally, 7th grade instruction in Language Arts creates a culture of reading and writing mastery and critical thinking that permeates learning in all subject areas.

Most Important Skills:

Some of the most important skills students will learn in this class are strong paragraph and essay writing, critical thinking, reading with fluency, and knowledge of the conventions of standard English.
