As member of New Vision’s Positive Impact Movement (PIM), we focus on supporting youth at EMAPS through Character Development and Mentoring.
Character Development
Character Development activities target identified students who require training that is relevant to establishing appropriate values, beliefs, and building a sense of self. PIM incorporates well-designed workshops to produce human transformation in youth who need to develop a mastery of life skills. These character development activities includes group sessions on the following:
- Values Clarification
- Leadership Development
- Cultural Awareness
- Academic Excellence
- Problem Solving Skills
- Stress and Anger Management
- Help with Peer Pressure
- Mending Family, Community, and Professional Relationships
- Bullying Awareness/Prevention
- Gang Awareness
Mentoring
We provide peer mediation, group, and one-on-one mentoring to youth to provide emotional support and life coaching which helps them maximize their potential. Our mentoring model is designed to help youth in four areas:
- Admission and Grieving
- Confrontation and Disclosure
- Forgiveness and Reconciliation
- Restoration and Healing
PIM uses an evidence based Talks curriculum to guide its mentoring efforts and life skills sessions. The vision of Talks is to share wisdom between generations. The purpose of Talks is to lead young men and women to make personal commitments to integrity and excellence. The goal of Talks is to structure opportunities for constructive dialogue between mature adults, role models, and youth by creating networks between schools and communities that provide instruction in moral, ethical, and responsible living. The approach Talks uses is to coordinate weekly and/or daily one-on-one and group mentoring opportunities between adults and youth.
The goal of this initiative is to reduce disruptive and violent incidents within the identified target group at EMAPS and thereby positively impact the overall emotional issues that are causing students to be dysfunctional and disruptive.
