7th and 8th Social Studies
Goals:
The three primary goals of Social Studies at EMAPS are:
- Reinforce positive student and school friendly routines and procedures
- Improve student study habits
- Build self-confidence in Social Studies
Activities/Structures:
Student success in Social Studies is driven by:
- Providing students with a real example of being organized as they pursue their goals by being consistent and structured daily as instruction is delivered.
- Allowing students to have a voice in the curriculum and activities to create student buy-in to the content matter.
- Providing multiple opportunities for student success by giving assignment options.
Mastery of Skills:
The skills learned in Social Studies are closely related to the skills learned and used in English and Language Arts (ELA). The ability to read through any text and glean the important content is a skill that can be utilized in high school History and ELA courses. Mastery of the skills taught in Social Studies will help students contextualize historical facts and use their knowledge to become productive citizens.
Future Effects of our Work:
Through Social Studies, students are taught investigative skills. Learn to diligently seek formation information is one of the most important skills students can learn. Teaching students to actively seek knowledge helps to promote a positive academic culture at EMAPS.
Most Important Skills:
Student will learn problem solving skills by researching and identifying how humans have impacted the world. In addition, students will understand the difference between primary and secondary sources and how to use them as evidence.
